Sacred Heart School – Hijas de Jesus desires to create sustainable community involvement programs and activities addressing the community needs and encouraging teachers to become more service – oriented and demonstrating a big heart for the poor.
The school adopts the Alternative Learning System (ALS) as part of the Outreach Program giving educational options to the out – of – school adults, e.g. house helpers and others who desire to finish their basic education.
The Outreach Coordinator, Mrs. Nadeal S. Ijurpe has conducted information-dissemination initiatives to parents and in the neighboring parish to inform and encourage the house helpers and the out-of-school adults to join the said program. Ten (10) learners have successfully passed the enrolment process and come on Sundays to attend classes from 12:00 noon until 4:00 in the afternoon. The delivery of instructions are done Synchronously every 1st and 3rd Sunday and Asynchronously every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month beginning August 2023 until April 2024.
The implementation of the ALS Program adheres to the guidelines and curriculum set by the Department of Education. To formalize the implementation of the program, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has been signed for both parties, the Sacred Heart School- Hijas de Jesus and the Department of Education through the school heads. An orientation was conducted by Mr. Elias Dominic Perales, the ALS Coordinator of Zapetera Elementary School which was attended by the ALS Learners and the SHS-HDJ Faculty across the three departments - Elementary, Junior High, and Senior High.
The faculty and staff of Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus have contributed to the success of the learners by coming on a Sunday and teaching the lessons of the different learning strands according to the subject of their expertise. This spirit of volunteerism has inspired the ALS learners to be more active and participative during the classroom discussions.
A livelihood training session is also conducted in order to teach the learners basic livelihood skills which they can use to help improve their way of living apart from passing the ALS Program offered by the school.
On April 4, 2024, the learners took the Final Assessment held at the Zapatera Elementary School where all the learners have successfully passed the Portfolio Presentation as well as the reading and Writing exams. The learners are now awaiting further information for them to get their Certificate of Rating which will then be used to get their Diplomas. A recognition of all the ALS passers and graduates is set to culminate the ALS program for school year 202-2024.
Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus will then again open the ALS Program for the school year 2024-2025.
